Our Trip Around India #1

Just after Christmas 2011, Joe and I left the European snow chaos to travel around India for 2 weeks. It was my first long haul holiday and certainly also a major adventure. I can honestly say that my stomach and I had an enormous cultural shock and sadly I was unable to eat curry for a whole year afterwards but it was also one amazing holiday in the far East.

Our first few days were spent in the capital of Bollywood - Mumbai - where we strolled along the promenade at night and were lucky enough to witness a pompous Indian wedding, laughed at the non-stop honking cars, visited a museum while seeking shelter of a very scary street dog, and were taken aback by the depressing slums.
Then we travelled a bit further down south (via plane) to Candolim, Goa, where we spent New Year's Eve at the beach, got lucky and spontaneously visited the Arpora Saturday Night Market, went to a beach where the locals and native travellers spent their Christmas holiday, made some friends and got our first tan.
We planned to take a train even further down south to the very quiet Palolem Beach, Goa, but there is no way of getting a train schedule or train ticket or any kind of useful information about trains at all in India, so we went on a long cab ride from Candolim to Palolem. Here we were awaited by 4 peaceful days of quiet, dolphins and beach pedicures, and 4 nights of howling dogs (I have regretted not taking earplugs).
