Decorating Our Home

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5
If you are decorating a place, plants really play a crucial role because they not only give your room a natural and friendly appeal, but they also (literally) add some life to it. I have picked my 5 favourites from pinterest to share with you and I even included an option for those of us whose green thumb isn't quite as developed as that of others (see # 4).

Pimms O'Clock

Certainly one of the best summer drinks ever is a Pimm's & lemonade. Mix 1 part Pimm's No. 1 with 3 parts chilled lemonade, add some cucumber, orange, strawberry and mint (I chose lemon instead of mint), pour into a jug or large glass and add ice. I used a couple of promotional glass stirrers, which I had brought home from the foodies festival the other weekend, to decorate my drinks (it obviously also works without them).

Blog Love August

Yet another month has passed and it is time to take a closer look at some of my lovely August sponsors. I really do enjoy reading their blogs very much and you should totally check them out, too, cause you might well like them just as much as I do.

Hello! My name is Emily and I am a 13 year old girl from Australia. I love to craft and make things, journal, find vintage treasures and play with dolls. I am not your average teenage girl. I blog about my crafts, diy tutorials, photography, everyday life and more!
When I started blogging, I had only ever read 2 blogs. This was my mums and Elsie's, from A Beautiful Mess. I have been reading her blog since I was 8 or 9 years old, and she is my biggest inspiration. When I started blogging I was being home schooled, and thought it would be fun to start one!

Hi, lovelies! My name is Emily. I am a tattooed, twenty-something vegetarian/blogger/college student/from-home worker and pet mama of two, living in the U.P. of Michigan. I'm a newbie blogger but am delighted to say I've already made some great friends (like Miss May here!) I spend my time blogging about the beautiful, scenic area in which I live and things that I adore like pretty photos and vintage/thrift finds. Oh, I do hope you will stop by!
[I was motivated to start blogging by] All the creative people on this planet! I was a reader of blogs for quite some time before I actually had one, and I was always so incredibly inspired by other blogs and the amazing shops on Etsy. Since moving up the U.P. a little over a year ago, I have had a lot more free time and "me" time than I used to, so I turned to blogging as a way to express myself and I couldn't be happier.

My name is Violet and I'm obsessed with photography, my puppy, decorating, food and my husband. I blog over at Blythe Ponytail Parades, a compilation blog featuring my photography and life! I love keeping my blog fresh and up to date, because in the long run, it's really a visual journal for myself documenting the wonderful things in life.
I was motivated to start blogging after constant inspiration from other talented bloggers. I saw them doing what they love and sharing that with the world. I wanted to share too!

Hi there, my name is Sam and I'm from My Latest Obsession! I am a young mother that sells vintage & upcycled clothes through my store, Sam Wish (samwishstore.com). On my blog I write about little life tidbits, clothes, and crafts! So come on over some time, it'd be lovely to have you (:
I've always been very crafty and have a knack for making things. I would become obsessed with different projects so I decided to start a blog to document them! In the process, it's become more of a journal, documenting my life as well. I've also fallen in love with the blogging community. It gives me a chance to connect to really awesome people from all over the world that have the same interests as me.

Hello! I'm Jane from ddalkijane. I love drawing/doodling, taking pictures and playing with my Blythe dolls, and my cat, Gamja(which means "Potato" in Korean). I started my blog because I wanted to have my own space instead of using Facebook. I do this Ddalki Diary to express my feelings and my daily life. The red hair girl is me and the monkey is my hubby :) If you would like to check out more ddalki diary, please visit me :)
We hope to get to see you soon!

Hello! I'm Laura from Lauryn Green blog. I live in Mallorca (Spain) and  I'm an illustrator, photographer and an animal lover. In my blog you can find a lot of photos of my daily life, DIY projects and drawings.
I started blogging because I wanted to meet new people with the same interests as me and It helps to keep me creative and organize my ideas.

I'm a 20 year old girl who's in love with dressing up, reading, yarn, thrifting, playing dominoes, taking photos, traveling, my bunny Lewis and making things for my Etsy shop! I hope you'll stop by and say hi.
I'm always reading many of my favorite blogs and they made me want to start blogging myself! And also because I wanted to open an Etsy shop and have a way to promote it.

Hi! My name is Bekuh and I'm the blogger behind Secondhand Sundays, where I share my obsessions with pretty vintage wares, delicious home cooked meals, and crafty handmade goods. I hope you'll stop by for a visit and stay awhile, I just know we'll be friends.
I got really motivated to start blogging after opening my first vintage shop a couple of years ago. After a few failed attempts I finally started to take blogging seriously as a way to motivate myself to be a better artist and crafter.

I look forward to

... stylenomics. Everyone knows I love essie nail polish (so much so that my sweet former colleagues gave me one as part of my leaving present - thanks again for that) and I am in love with these autumn colours which are due to come out in September. I am particularly looking forward to skirting the issue, head mistress and stylenomics. Let's hope I'll have a couple of pennies left to buy them!!

Red Velvet Cupcakes

Red Velvet is the cake flavour I most often choose when I buy cupcakes somewhere, particularly at the Hummingbird Bakery or Violet Cakes, although I also always tend to get a second more interesting flavour along with my red velvet. Well, for the first time now, I have made my own red velvet cupcakes.

Ingredients: 150g butter (soft) - 150g caster sugar - 2 eggs - 1 teaspoon vanilla essence - 2 teaspoons red food colouring - 150ml buttermilk - 150g self-raising flour - 1 teaspoon cocoa powder - 1 teaspoon baking powder
Cream cheese icing: 20g butter - 40g cream cheese - 400g icing sugar

Preheat the oven to 180°C.

1) Whisk together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in the eggs, add the vanilla essence, food colouring and buttermilk. Combine the flour, baking powder and cocoa in a separate bowl and add to the batter.
2) Spoon the mixture into your muffin cases and bake for 30 minutes at 180°C.
3) For the cream cheese icing (or buttercream frosting) beat together the butter and cream cheese. Slowly sift in the icing sugar and whisk all together. The icing sugar is very powdery and it is best to whisk it in gradually rather than all at once unless you want your entire kitchen covered in fine white dust.
4) Take the muffins out of the oven and let them cool down.
5) Using a piping bag, knife or spoon, cover the muffins with the white cream cheese icing and decorate with sprinkles, glitter or sugar balls. Yummy!!

Awaiting Autumn

I just realised that I haven't been to a single summer wedding this year. This might sound weird, but I love weddings and I love summer so it only makes sense that I would be really into summer weddings. I guess I cannot force my friends to get married. Sadly. Anyhow, I was thinking how I have a few things that I do want to accomplish or just 'do' for the remainder of this year and I thought I should share them with you so that I will be more motivated to actually do these things (often my to-do lists [of which I have many] end up under the table and when I find them again, their time has passed). And because I once read in a "How To: To-Do Lists" that you should always include things you've already done, I will put my biggest, and already achieved goal for 2012 first.
[1] Get a job. Tick.
[2] Buy those Hunter wellies to withstand the English weather. Tick.
[3] Do more DIYs. Target: Once a week.
[4] Throw a combined birthday and house warming party; possibly 20s themed.
[5] Read more books in German (after 5 years of studying and reading Brit lit). Tick.
[6] Save some money for # 7. Tick
[7] Go Christmas shopping in a European capital. Tick.
[8] Bake a rainbow or ombre cake.
[9] Get into sports more and take up dancing again.
[10] Make home made Glühwein (mulled wine).

Out in The Woods

How gorgeous is this wall painting I found here??? Just think this is your child('s) bedroom and imagine how wonderful it would be to wake up to this serene and peaceful scenery every morning, play alongside it every day and go to bed every night, wrapped in the quiet and tranquillity of the woods, watched over by cute deer. I would've loved this to be my bedroom art 20 years ago!!!

Greek Moussaka

Do you like lasagne? I sure do (particularly my mum's home made one) but the other day in the supermarket I thought I should try one with a twist or in other words: Greek moussaka. Basically you cut the pasta sheets from the regular lasagne and layer the tomato-mince-meat-sauce with pan fried aubergines instead. Topped off with a béchamel -cheese sauce and some additional cheese on top (yep, it gets pretty cheesy) it's a very delicious dish and an excellent alternative to Italian lasagne.

Great News!!

Ladies, I have a job!!! After three weeks of living in London (living off the little money I had saved and Joe's generosity), applying to a ton of different jobs and almost freaking out because I thought I would never find anything to pay for the essentials such as food and rent but also my shopping habit, I was invited to my first post-graduation job interview. The company I'll be working for is a really cool fashion company, specialising in leather goods (worn by a huge number of celebrities which I'll be getting back to soon) and although I had never heard of them before, I am now really excited about the opportunity. I have never worked full-time before and I don't know how much time I'll have left for my blog. I really do hope I can keep it up and post every day Mon-Fri but I will probably start taking weekends off to spend some quiet time with Joe. Well, we'll see but for now I am so happy and relieved to have found a job!

10 Things I Love!

These are 10 things I am loving right now and which I would really like to have around me. I might even work on getting some of them for example picking a few autumn leaves, pressing and framing them. For pictures and sources visit me on pinterest

Neon Nails

After creating all of those neon inspiration boards, I needed a little colour pop to take away with me and decided to paint my nails in bright orange and pink shades. I actually tried replicating this exact ombre manicure but I just don't seem to be able to do it. My sponge absorbed all of the pink polish and while I desperately tried getting at least some onto my nail, I was basically just messing with the orange. Well, simply follow my 4 steps and you'll have a pretty, fuss-free neon manicure as well.

Neon!

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5
I've been inspired by all things neon recently because these pops of colour here and there (particularly orange, yellow and pink) are so summery, fresh and fun looking that it totally lights the mood even if the summer here isn't always the best. Before it'll be officially autumn soon, I wanted to show you a few of the pictures that I've loved most!

Literary Map of the UK

Before I say anything about how cool this map is, I should mention that the United Kingdom entails England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland (hence 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland') and does NOT include Ireland which is why James Joyce (among other Irish authors) cannot be found anywhere on here. Anyway, I LOVE this map and I would like to purchase the poster and hang it up in my office one day because literature is and always has been an important part of my life and because - for the last five years during my studies - I have read nothing but the great books of these legendary authors above.

Strawberry Muffins

Yesterday I suddenly felt like baking something for myself but didn't want to go out and buy a load of special ingredients so I simply batched together the few things I had and created some strawberry muffins (I didn't use quite enough flour to get proper rise top muffins, but I already added some extra to the list of ingredients below):

Ingredients: 100g butter (room temp) - 75g sugar - 3 eggs - 150g flour - 1 heaped teaspoon baking powder - 40g mixed nuts (chopped) - 100g chopped strawberries
Decoration: 50g icing sugar - 1 teaspoon water - whole strawberries

Preheat the oven to 180°C (fan).

Instructions:
1) Mix together the butter and sugar until very smooth.
2) Gradually add the eggs while continuing the mixing.
3) Combine flour and baking powder and add to the batter.
4) Fold in the nuts and chopped strawberries until just combined.
5) Fill the batter into your muffin cups or a lined muffin tin and bake for half an hour.
6) Stir together the icing sugar and the water until smooth (add a few drops of food colouring if you like).
7) Decorate the muffins with the icing and add the whole strawberries on top.

Gifted!

Add that little fun extra to your wrapped presents with some paper buttons.
Decorate a blank notepad and give it to someone special to remind them of you every day!!
Buying and personalising as well as wrapping and decorating gifts has always been more exciting for me than actually receiving gifts myself. Recently, I stumbled upon the BLANK website which offers a whole load of cute gift ideas, ready to be personalised by you, and many lovely decorating ideas for your already wrapped gifts.

3 piece Matrioshka dolls to decorate yourself. How much fun would this be??!!

Freebie | Social Media Icons

Pretty social media icons can really upgrade your blog significantly. I always find it much nicer if there are some special icons in the side bar rather than the custom symbols of the usual social media platforms. On Carrie Loves you can find the above round icons (a total of 12 symbols in 15 different colours) which are easy to download and resizeable (I say that cause they are pretty big originally)! On Her New Leaf you can find the squarey icons below (10 icons in 5 different colours) which are also pretty easy to download.

If you don't like the above choices, you can always just make your own social media buttons. Simply follow the tutorial by Ashton on Something Swanky. I found it to be quite an easy process, however, I did have some trouble finding all social media vector silhouettes that I wanted to have so I had to be a little creative. Bloglovin' is now 'stached on my blog. Below you can see the 3 different social media sets I created on picmonkey (currently I am using the first).
